Cardboard display box for Mars Wrigley Maltesers in the UK is now fully recyclable
Mars Wrigley has taken a step closer to making its packaging 100% reusable, recyclable and compostable by ditching the black PE coating on packaging box that has been common on store shelves since 1930.
The company has used gloss varnish method to replace its previous multi-layer box design, which used PE gloss lamination. The company says the new design will reduce its annual plastic use by 82 tons.
The new Maltesers use paperboard with gloss varnish method, which is fully recyclable, biodegradable and compostable. AdamGrant, managing director of Mars wrigley UK, said: "Mars takes its responsibility for sustainable packaging seriously and now our iconic malteser boxes are fully recyclable, marking another step forward in making our packaging 100% reusable, recyclable and compostable.
